Business Desk :Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu on Sunday said the government is working to set up two new economic zones.”The process is underway to select possible sites to this end,” he said at a meeting with newly elected board of directors of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) at the Industries Ministry.Industries Secretary Mohammad Mainuddin Abdullah, DCCI President Mohammad Shahjahan Khan, Senior Vice-President Osama Tasir, Vice-President Khandaker Shahidul Islam, former President and incumbent Director M Sabur Khan, directors Abul Hossain, Haider Ahammed Khan and M Iftekhar Uddin Khan were present at the meeting, among others.The industries minister said the government would take decisions for development of trade and industries in consultation with the businessmen and entrepreneurs.He urged the entrepreneurs to increase the use of jute goods in local industrial units.The government’s policy support would be continuing for potential industrial sectors, including tourism, he said.The DCCI leaders stressed the need for a need-based research for development of small and medium enterprises with the involvement of Industries Ministry, Bangladesh Bank, SME Foundation and DCCI.They demanded a quick approval of the policy on ship-breaking industry, implementation of the project for pharmaceutical city and uninterrupted gas and power supplies and utility connections to industrial units.Later, leaders of Bangladesh Embroidery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BEMEA) called on the industries minister at his office.The minister called for concerted efforts by entrepreneurs to make embroidery industry sector self-reliant.
