The government is going to take initiatives to register individual number of every mobile phone sets, State minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim said on Saturday.
“It is important to register individual mobile number to check cyber crime across the country and the government is sincerely working in this regard,” she said while addressing a roundtable organized by Telecom Reporters` network Bangladesh (TRNB) at a city hotel.
Tarana Halim said the registration process of International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number will be started soon after next April 2016.
The state minister also said that registration of SIM and mobile phones IMEI number is an important matter for the sake of people`s safety.
BTRC Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood, Director General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Dr Moinul Khan and RAB Commander BN M Shahed Karim, among opthers, took part in the programme.
