Govt to open 9 more diplomatic missions abroad: Minister

The government has undertaken an initiative to open nine more diplomatic missions in eight countries, as part of expanding the country’s diplomatic presence in the world.
“We have set up three new diplomatic missions in Austria, Poland and Denmark during the government’s present tenure and nine missions were established in the period between 2009 to 2013,” Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali told.
He said this on Thursday while replying to a question from treasury bench member M Mamunur Rashid Kiron from Noakhali-3, he said setting up of three new diplomatic missions in Kabul, Afghanistan, in Khartoum, Sudan and in Freetown, Sierra Leon is now awaiting approval of the finance ministry following the consent of the Prime Minister.
Besides, Public Administration Ministry approved another proposal to establish three full-fledged diplomatic missions, one deputy high commission and one assistant high commission in Bucharest, Rumania (Re-establish), in Abuja, Nigeria, in Algiers, Algeria Chennai and Guwahati, India, Mahmood Ali said.
