Govt to implement IGA training for poor Women, JS told

The government has undertaken a project titled ‘Income Generating Activities (IGA) Training of Women at Upazila Level’ at a cost of Taka 127.73 crore.
“The project is now pending with the Planning Commission for approval,” , State Minister for Public Administration Ismat Ara Sadek on behalf of State Minister for Women and Chindren Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki said this on Monday while replying to a question from treasury bench member M Monirul Islam of Jessore-2 in the House.
She said after approval of the project the training programme for the poor women would be implemented at all upazila of the country.
She informed the House that the women affairs department has been implementing various programmes for creating employment and ensuring welfare of the rural destitute and insolvent women under its revenue and development budgets following the present government’s plans.
The programmes included vulnerable group development (VGD), allowance for pregnant women, programme of assistance fund for working lactating mother, grant distribution (among women associations), small loan distribution, sewing machine distribution, skilled based training programme, women training centre, women and child welfare fund and destitute women and child assistance fund, she added.
