16th Amendment verdict: Govt to file review petition: Anis

Law Minister Anisul Huq has said the government will file a review petition with the Supreme Court against its verdict that upheld the scrapping of 16th amendment of the Constitution.
The government has already received the certified copy of the Supreme Court verdict, he said while talking to reporters after a programme at a city hotel on Thursday.
The 16th amendment of the Constitution had empowered the Parliament to remove the Supreme Court judges for incapacity or misconduct, what was scrapped by the High Court.
 “A review petition should be filed within 30 days of the verdict. We will try to submit the petition within the time. If fail then we will seek time,” the Law Minister said.In response to a query, Anisul Huq said Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha may go abroad today (Friday) and he will travel to Australia, Canada, USA and UK during his leave.
The Law Minister urged all not to do politics with the Chief Justice’s leave.
An agreement was signed in the programme between the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Ministry of Law and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) about Legislative Impact Assessment (LIA).
Senior Secretary of the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division Mohammad Shahidul Haque and Bangladesh Country Manager of IFC Ehsanul Azim were also present in the programme, among others.
