Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam has said Bangladesh will explore new markets for rice export as country’s food production for the last three decades has increased about three times.
“We have achieved self-sufficiency in rice production. Bangladesh is now exporting rice to Sri Lanka and looking for more new destinations,” an official statement on Sunday quoted him as saying at the 2nd World Grain Forum -2016 in Russian border town of Sochi on Saturday.
Qamrul said ensuring food security for the people is one of an important goal of our government led by Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina.
The availability of food has ensured our food security, said the minister.
“Bangladesh is now quite capable to ensure food for the several crores of people during any disaster without seeking any assistance from abroad.” Islam told the forum.
