Government will distribute about 32.50 crore textbooks at free of cost among four crore students of primary and secondary levels next year (academic year of 2015).
“The number of drop out students has significantly reduced meantime due to the time-befitting step of the present government through distributing free textbooks among the students of primary and secondary levels,” Chairman of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Prof Abul Kashem Mia told BSS.
He said the government will distribute 2.50 crore more books next year as the number of students are increasing day by day. “All concerned are working sincerely so that the free textbooks could reach in the hands of students of pre-primary, primary, secondary, secondary vocational, ebtedayee, dakhil and dakhil vocational levels across the country on the first day of next year,” he said.
He hoped that the books are expected to reach all district and upazila headquarters by November 30 this year.
Prof Kashem said apart from the pre-primary level books, the work order for printing and binding of books have been issued for 221 institutions.
He said work order for publishing 11,40,67,298 books for 2,31,70,351 primary (Bengali and English Version) students, 1,04,60,893 books for 14,82,03,393 high school (Bengali and English Version), 21,12,155 books for 1,74,573 students of SSC vocational students, 1,79,69,420 books against 25,332 students in ebtedayee level, 3,08,17,157 books for 21,18,395 students in dakhil and 1,12,25 books for 8,601 dakhil vocational students was issued in May last.
“The NCTB, the largest state-owned publishing house, is working relentlessly to prepare 32, 53, 14,506 text books for the 4, 44, 52,374 students in the upcoming academic year, 2015,” the NCTB chairman added.
