‘Govt to construct more four ‘eco-parks’ in Dhaka’

The government will construct another four ‘eco-park’ surrounding the Dhaka city with a view to developing environment of the capital, and for entertainment and checking encroachment of river banks by the land grabbers.
Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said this as chief guest on Thursday while inaugurating ‘Eco-Park rides’ developed by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) at Shyampur here.
The government has constructed a ‘Buriganga Eco-Park’ on 6,684 acres on the bank of river Buriganga in 2011 after evicting the illegal land grabbers by the BIWTA, said the minister.
Vested quarters were involved in illegal construction materials business for long by occupying illegally the river banks, the boundary area of Dhaka River port at Syampur under Syampur-Kadamtali police station of Dhaka district.
Besides this, the BIWTA has also constructed 22 eco-park rides which are now being operated by a private company.
