Govt takes pragmatic steps to increase fish production: Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu Friday said the present government has taken various pragmatic steps to expand fish production in the country.
“The government is working sincerely to increase the growth of fishes so that Bangladesh can earn more foreign exchange by exporting the product meeting domestic demand,” he said while speaking at a discussion at district Shilpokola Acedemy here.
The discussion was organized in connection with the observation of ‘National Fisheries Week-2014’ with deputy commissioner Md. Shakhawat Hossain in the chair.
Among others, Zila Parishad Administrator Alhaj Sardar Md Shah Alam, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Mojid Ali, Mayor of Jhalakathi Municipality Afzal Hossain, District Fisheries Officer Rejaul Karim and General Secretary of district Fish Farm Owners Association Mohammad Quamruzzaman were present.
Later, the minister released fish fries into Jhalakathi Collectorate Pond.
Earlier a colourful rally was brought out participated by a good number of fishermen.
Attending another programme Amu donated TK 1.50 lakh as educational expenses for the children of the insolvent and sick freedom fighters here.
