The government on Tuesday requested South Korea’s Daewoo E&C, a leading global construction company to hire more workers from Bangladesh.
The request was conveyed to Daewoo E&C general manager Joong-Hwan Lim during his meeting with Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment minister Nurul Islam at his Probashi Kalyan Bhaban office.
Later, officials told the media at the meeting the issue of many Bangladeshi workers recruited by Daewoo E&C came up for discussion.
They said that these Bangladeshi workers were working for Daewoo E&C’s construction projects in Algeria, Nigeria, Libya, UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Iraq and Qatar.
‘Very soon,’ they said, Daewoo E&C would recruit more workers for its construction projects in Iraq, Oman and Libya.
The EWOE minister requested the Daewoo E&C general manager to keep recruitment process on in Bangladesh.
He also thanked the Daewoo chief and assured all cooperation from his ministry, said officials.
BMET director general Salim Reza informed the Daewoo E&C chief that there many construction workers in Bangladesh were ready to work for Daewoo E&C abroad.
Daewoo E&C chief praised Bangladeshi workers as dedicated, hard-working and trust worthy.
