BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, corruption is rampant everywhere starting from grassroots level.
“The incumbent government is a failed one,” he said during a programme at National Press Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Corruption is everywhere, unabated, from rural to urban,” he said.
Fakhrul said, “Previously the government was of the People, by the People and for the People. It’s now of the plunderers, by the plunderers and for the plunderers.
He accused the ruling Awami League of grabbing from TR (Test Relief) to Kajer Binimoy Khaddo.”
“I have heard that the pillars of the metro rail and elevated expressways have been divided amongst the ruling party leaders,” Fakhrul claimed and added that the “foreign investors were forced to do so.”
“The ruling party leaders are plundering everything and democracy must be brought back to save the country,” he said. adding that the government has failed in terms of industrial development. “Garments have become synonymous to industries now.”
Responding to queries on the recent drama on rawhide prices, he said that the rawhide industry is now in grave crisis, while the religious institutions and orphanages became the worst sufferers from the drop in prices this Eid-ul-Azha.
BNP Secretary General said, “Without a new election, the crisis of the people of the country will not be eliminated.”
Mirza Fakhrul said that the popular government should be established through a fair election to overcome the country’s crisis. The first requirement for this is to dismantle the Election Commission and to establish a neutral government for the election period.
BNP Secretary General said, “To get rid of the current situation and ‘restore’ democracy, he said ‘Khaleda Zia must be freed from jail and a government with people’s mandate will have to be installed.” BNP Vice, Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Barkatullah Bulu and Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal addressed the meeting.
