Staff Reporter :
The BNP on Thursday accused the government of rearing killers and oppressing oppositions.
“President has pardoned killer AHM Biplob who killed Advocate Nurul Islam, former Organizing Secretary of Luxmipur District unit BNP. Killer Biplob is the son of Luxmipur municipality mayor and ruling Awami League leader Abu Taher. That killer is now roaming around with presidential clemency. It is a shameful incident for the nation,” BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said it in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
Rizvi said, “On the other hand, the court awarded life term jail to our acting Chairman Tarique Rahman who was not at all involved in the grenade attack incident. It proved that this government is patronising killers and torturing innocent political leaders and elites.”
“So far information we have received, around 6,000 confirmed prisoners have so far been released from jails by the order of the Home Ministry. As long as this government is in power, nobody will get justice,” the BNP leader said.
He said, “The verdict in the grenade attack case, aimed at destroying the image of
our party in a planned way, and to fulfill the desire of the government. The verdict is also a ploy to hold one-sided national polls.”
Rizvi said, “The government is viciously using the state machinery to victimise Tarique Rahman, other BNP leaders and high officials. But the people have turned down the verdicts as those were given to eliminate the opposition parties.”
BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman, central leaders Ziaur Rahman, Abdus Salam Azad, Munir Hossain and Arifur Rahman Tushar, among others, were present.
BNP’s demo in the capital: BNP on Thursday brought out a procession protesting the verdict of August 21 grenade attack cases awarding BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman life term jail and others from death to punishment of different terms.
