Though the Ministry of Health has declared about formation of isolation wards in different government hospitals, senior physicians have shown their utter disagreement over the policy terming it ‘most impractical’.
Declaring a ward inside any busy hospital as an “isolation ward” is highly risky for the spread of the deadly virus, they said. For other patients living under panic in the same hospital is real and cannot be brushed aside.
Since the arrival of the coronavirus we got enough time for taking some urgent measures and we are not alone in this global crisis. Helps can be obtained from all over the world. The government’s unpreparedness is the result of the incompetent ministers’ shortcomings.
The government must convince the international community that it is trying hard and doing its best to contain the virus.
No country by its own efforts will make their people safe from coronavirus. The efforts should be worldwide for working together. Our government seems not so anxious to show the world how desperately it is taking steps in its fight against the pandemonium.
It’s a real story where a 42-year old Bahrain-returned man had fled recently Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital while doctors were discussing whether to send him to IEDCR for coronavirus tests. The patient returned from Bahrain around two months ago was admitted to the hospital with a cold and fever.
The government must be aware that in other countries how on priority basis exclusive hospitals or health centres are setting up exclusively for intensive care of corona patients.
We all know that there is no real treatment for the virus. The serious patients are kept for intensive care to alley breathing problem. So just marking any ordinary hospital or health centre for the corona victims will not bring any good for the genuine patients.
We know that some rich people have shown willingness to set up hospitals in their own facilities with their private money. How much cooperation is offered to them by the government is not known to us.
That is the reason for which we have been insisting to have a central task force of specialists to do the right things and keep the people informed.
For corona patients special health centres can be temporarily organised with beds and ventilation facility. These sorts of arrangement will not be expensive like buying land and constructing heavy building like general hospitals.
There are buildings that can easily be converted into makeshift health centres. But in that case government cooperation is vital. The people do not know how hard the government is trying to do its part while the government is expecting the people to remain confined and do other things.
Keeping people under house confinement is one thing and it does not cost government anything but the day to day problems of confined people are to be met by the centralised efforts of the government.
Even for the success of private initiative the government has to extend a helping hand.
