Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday allowed bail to Comilla City Corporation Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku after he surrendered to the court in a graft case.
On November 21, last, a special judge court,
discharged Sakku from the case filed on the charges of amassing wealth and confiscating information about his wealth.
Later, on January 4, a bench of the High Court Division issued rule as to why the order of the special court should not be declared illegal. The apex court also rejected Sakku’s bail in the case and asked him to surrender to the concerned trial court while the trial court was asked to consider allowing him bail.
On January 7, 2008, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Monirul Haque Sakku, who is also a BNP leader, and his wife Afroza Jesmin on the charges of confiscating information about their wealth worth Tk 1.12 crore and amassing wealth worth over Tk 4.5 crore illegally.
However, Afroza was not indicted in the case as the charges were not proved against her and the investigation officer of the case appealed to the court to discharge her of the case.
