Govt mulls over introducing Dhaka-Ctg expressway: Jabed

State Minister for land Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed on Saturday said that the government is mulling over introducing Dhaka-Chittagong expressway in addition to the four-lane highway.
“I have already ventilated the plan to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who is utmost sincere about the development of Chittagong like Dhaka”, he added.
The minister was addressing the website inaugural ceremony of Amra Chatgabashi (www.chatgabashi.org) at Chittagong Press Club here this morning.
Terming Chittagong, a 2200-year old city, the minister said Chittagong has its own culture, history and tradition that should be preserved for the sake of national interest.
Referring to a criticism by a certain quarter about a newly introduced flyover in the port city, Saifuzzaman Chowdhury said the responsible persons should pass judgment in responsible way.
“This quarter is, in a planned way, affecting the development process of the city”, he said adding that they should come forward to help the development process shunning the path of negative criticism.
Inaugurating the website, Chittagong city Mayor M Manjur Alam Manju said an integrated approach is vital for overall development of the city.
Referring to water-logging, a pressing issue of the city dwellers, the mayor said a Tk 350 crore project for removal of water-logging problem has been shelved for years in the ministry that keeps the problem unresolved.
Presided over by Amra Chatgabashi (AC) president major general (retd) Syed Mohammmad Ibrahim Bir Protik, Mahjabin Murshed MP, AC vice-president journalist Asif Siraz, Advocate Nurul Islam and Mohammad Musa, among others, spoke on the occasion.
