Govt may send successful entrepreneurs of UDCs abroad

The government will find out ways soon to send some successful entrepreneurs of 4,547 Union Digital Centers (UDC) in phases for higher training to promote e-commerce and e-services.
The assurance came from the government when a group of UDC entrepreneurs met separately with State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak and ICT Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder at the ICT Division on Thursday.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina termed all of you as the digital boys and girls just three days back. The ICT Division will provide all out support and cooperation to these digital boys and girls who are ensuring people’s access to public services using ICT,” Palak told the entrepreneurs.
The ICT secretary inquired about the services they (entrepreneurs) provided to the people of rural areas, their income and possibility of e-commerce business at the rural level.
“We will try our best to send some successful entrepreneurs of Digital Centers abroad in phases for higher training to promote e-commerce and e-services in the rural areas,” Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder said during the meeting with him.
The ICT secretary expressed his satisfaction over the performance of the UDC entrepreneurs who have now planned to launch help desk to give instant solution over telephone to the weak entrepreneurs of UDC and e-commerce portal to buy and sale various products especially agricultural and handicrafts.
S M Arifuzzaman of Arabpur UDC of Jessore district who led the UDC entrepreneurs group described online service delivery system that have brought an end to the 200-year-old cumbersome method of public service delivery.
“We are providing 60 categories of services including land related document parcha/khatian, birth registration certificates, passport form to the people and of them 40 categories services are online,” he said adding like other UDCs he has also been providing computer training and outsourcing training through his center and earning Taka about one lakh each month against the delivery of various services.
Arif said the UDC entrepreneurs group has developed a web portal titled ‘Amader Hat’ to introduce e-commerce at the rural level to buy and sale 21 categories of products including agriculture and handicrafts.
Roksana Parvin, another entrepreneur of Ambikapur UDC of Faridpur said she has recently introduced sewing machines to make garments and handicrafts aiming to sale those through e-shop.
“I am really impressed to hear the stories of online service delivery provided by the entrepreneurs of 4,547 UDCs at the grass root level. We should send them abroad for higher training to gather information e-service delivery and e-commerce,” said Shyam Sunder.
Additional Secretary Kamaluddin Ahmed, WB financed Leveraging ICT for Growth, Employment and Governance (LICT) Deputy Project Director Tarique M BarkatUllah and Communication Specialist Ajit Kumar Sarker were present.
