Govt implements various programmes to protect indigenous culture, JS told

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said the present government is implementing various development programmes through 17 directorates and organizations under the ministry to protect country’s culture, history and heritage.
The government took the development programmes to create a cheerful non-communal environment and flourish human qualities in the country, he said this on Sunday while replying to a question of treasury bench member Begum Luthfa Taher in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Bangladesh has cultural agreements with 40 countries, he said adding that six cultural groups visited in India, Egypt, South Korea and Belgium in the current year.
To another question from Md Ayen Uddin, Asadauzzaman Noor said the government is expanding cultural activities through Bangladesh Shilpokola Academy, Bangla Academy, Nazrul Institute and Bangladesh Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation, to resist aggression of vulgar and unethical alien culture.
He said 25 projects involving about Taka 26 crore were implemented in the fiscal 2013-14 for expanding and protecting country’s culture, he added.
