The government so far has imparted training to some 8,20,000 youths on 34 different trades under upazila level training programme strengthening project, said an official release on Wednesday.
Of them, around 4,82,.000 youths have established themselves as self-reliant entrepreneurs after receiving the training.
The information was revealed at a daylong workshop on “Upazila level training programme strengthening” held at the head office of the Department of Youth Development on Wednesday.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder attended the programme as the chief guest.
Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Youth and Sports M Jahid Ahsan Rasel spoke as the special guests.
With Director General of the Department of Youth Development Anwarul Karim in the chair, the workshops was also addressed, among others, Fahim Razzaque MP, M Mahbub Ali MP, Nurul Islam Talukder MP, Begum Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury and Acting Youth and Sports Secretary M Asadul Islam.
The poor and unemployed youths in the rural areas are getting scope of receiving skilled training along with getting opportunities to become self-reliant through the training programme by the department of youth development, said the state minister.
