UNB, Shafipur :
Asserting that it is the duty of her government to ensure the security of public life and property, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday vowed to restore peace eliminating militancy and terrorism.
“People want peace. So, there’ll be no place for terrorists and militants in the country, and we’ve to ensure peace at any cost so that the people of Bangladesh could live a safe and peaceful life,” she said.
The Prime Minister was addressing the 35th National Rally of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) at Ansar-VDP Academy here.
Hasina alleged that when the country is moving ahead in all fields, the BNP-Jamaat clique all of a sudden started burning people to death and causing damage to public property through unleashing such subversive acts in the name of hartal and blockade without any reason.
The Prime Minister said those who are unleashing terrorist and militant acts and thus putting hindrance to the country’s development are the enemies of the country.
“We’ll have to maintain the pace of development braving all odds,” she said renewing her pledge to build a hunger- and poverty free-middle-income country by 2021 and a prosperous developed one by 2041.
The Prime Minister said the evil force of BNP-Jamaat has started killing people again the way they did before last January 5, 2014 election. “In the name of politics, they’re torching buses and trucks and burning innocent people alive through hurling petrol bombs.”
“Are they human being or devil and what kind of politics it is?” she asked saying their activities are nothing but terrorism and militancy.
Hasina said, all the victims of petrol bomb attacks are innocent people. “They’re bus and truck drivers and marginal people. The lives of toiling masses have no value to BNP chief Khaleda Zia.”
She said that, the BNP-Jamaat talks about religion, but they called hartal even on the birthday of the Prophet (SM) and on the days of Biswa Ijtema. They pushed the lives of about 1.5 million SSC students towards danger and uncertainty through their destructive activities.
The Prime Minister said it is the sacred responsibility of the government to protect the lives and property of people and this why it has deployed members of Ansar alongside police, Rab and BGB personnel to curb subversive activities on highways and railways.
Hasina said, some 8,328 Ansar members have so far been deployed at 1,041 points of Bangladesh Railway. Twelve ansar members in each of 993 points on highways are also being deployed.
The scale of destruction of property declined remarkably after the deployment of Ansar to protect Bangladesh Railway, Hasina said adding that they have showed the highest level of patriotism and courage.
She praised the role of Ansar members in protecting the property of Bangladesh Railway before the last year general election when the country was reeling on unprecedented acts of sabotage by BNP and Jamaat men.
The Prime Minister alleged that the BNP and Jamaat unleashed vandalism when Bangladesh is on the road of robust economic growth and the living condition of the people is improving.
Sheikh Hasina said, her government is working for building a hunger-and poverty free, illiteracy free, technology-based mid-income country by 2021. “No obstacle will be able to stop us, Inshaallah,” she said.
Earlier, on her arrival at the Ansar Academy, the Prime Minister was received by State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Home Secretary Md Mozammel Haque Khan, Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Major General Md Nazim Uddin.
Riding open jeep, the Prime Minister inspected the parade of a smartly-turned out contingent of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP and took salute with Ansar & VDP Director Md Fakhrul Islam as the parade commander.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina handed over medals and cheques to 97 members of Bangladesh Ansar & VDP for their bravery and excellence in the service.
Ministers, advisers to the Prime Minister, parliament members, diplomats and high civil and military officials were present.
