Farmers of Jalalabad Union under Gopalganj Sadar are becoming financially solvent by growing of Maan Arum and farmers in this area proved it. Maan Arum is more profitable vegetable crop comparatively any vegetable crops, farmers said.
Kalam Sheikh (50) a farmer of village Chardalaitala under Sadar Upazila in Gopalgan told The New Nation he cultivated maan arum on one local bigha (52 decimal) of land where spend taka 40,000 and he already earned taka one lac from it produce, till last month and rest arum in is field which amounting about taka 50,000, Kalam said during visit his field at Chardalaitala. Maximum marginal farmers in this region cultivating maan arum on commercial basis and they getting a good profit from it produce to sale the markets.
According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Gopalganj official sources said, a total of 55 hectors of land have been brought under maan arum cultivation in sadar upazila where production target at 265 metric tonnes (MT) this year. About 1,000 farmers including male & female under Gopalganj Sadar Upazila also involved this farming, sources said.
Manju Sarder (35), another farmer of village Charghaga of Jalalabad union under Sadar Upazila said, he cultivated maan arum on 26 decimal of land he got record profit above taka 85,000 from it produce where spend taka only 21,000. One stage Manju said, soil & weather condition is favourable in our areas for farming of maan arum. As a result we are getting a good benefit from it produce, Manju said.

Santosh Biswas, Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer (SAAO), Jalalabad union under Sadar Upazila in the district told The New Nation Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Gopalganj already provided to the farmers for farming of this vegetable crop (maan arum) and maintaining them to field level. One stage he said Maan Arum is more profitable vegetable crop & farmers can start harvest after 6 to 7 months from planting and it huge vitamin A & Iron fulfilled which very effective to surplus recover for female nutrition, Santosh said.
SAAO, Jalalabad union further said, about 15 to 16 hectors of land have been brought under Maan Arum cultivation in this union this year where about 100 to 120 farmers involved this farming, SAAO said.
