Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Friday said, the government has nothing to do regarding BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s release.
“Khaleda Zia’s release from jail is a ‘legal matter.

The government has not influenced anyone in this regard nor can it play any role,” Obaidul Quader said.
The minister said this in a press briefing in the political office of AL President Sheikh Hasina at Dhanmondi in the capital on Friday morning.
“BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been imprisoned after being convicted in a corruption case. There is no relation between her imprisonment and politics,” he said.
“The people rejected the BNP in the 11th general election, as it is a political party of such persons without image and honesty. People will not support them in the upcoming days also,” he said.
Obaidul Quader said, “There is no pressure from the mass people for the release of Khaleda Zia, nor the BNP can wage a strong political movement in this regard. It is simply evidence of failure of the BNP as a political party.
He informed that a total of 2,076 AL candidates collected nomination papers for chairman post while 3,445 candidates for vice-chairman post to contest the upazila elections.
