Govt formulating policy for apps-based transportation

The government is formulating a policy for apps based private transportation companies, including UBER, to ensure passengers’ rights and security.
This was revealed on Thursday when a three-member delegation of UBER led by its East Region Public Policy Chief Chand Tulal Mazumdar called on Road Transpiration and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at latter’s office here, an official handout said.
During the meeting, the minister said the government would like to make the apps based passenger transportation service open to public. “We will take opinions from common people as well as all stakeholders in formulating the policy,” he said.
Quader said Bangladesh can’t be isolated from technology based services. “But, we have to bring those services within the country’s existing laws and regulations,” he added.
The minister said the policy makers are reviewing services and security aspects of ridesharing mechanism through mobile apps to protect passengers right.
Road Transportation and Highways division secretary M A N Siddique and high officials of Bangladesh Road Transportation Authority (BRTA) were also present.
