Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that the government is firm on keeping CNG and battery run-auto rickshaws off highways.
“Frequent road accidents happen for reckless movements of CNG and battery run-auto rickshaws off highways which claim lots of lives. Auto rickshaws won’t be allowed on highways for the sake of passengers’ lives,” he said.
The minister made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon while inspecting the construction works of railway overpass and four-lane road at Bishawroad area in Padua Bazar of Comillia on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
He said the CNG and battery run-auto rickshaws can ply on other roads across the country.
