Govt extends general holidays until May 30

The government has once again extended the ongoing general holidays until May 30 amid the spike in coronavirus cases.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said the general holiday has been extended further to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
As per the holiday calendar of the government, May 21 is Shab-e-Qadr holiday, May 22 and 23 are weekly holidays and May 24 to 26 are Eid holidays.
On March 23, the government declared general
holidays from March 26 to April 4, in a bid to protect people from being infected by the fast spreading virus as elsewhere in the world.
Later, the holidays were extended until May 16 in different phases.
Bangladesh reported highest-ever deaths and infections from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Wednesday.
Coronavirus fatalities have risen to 269 with record 19 new deaths during the period. Besides, record 1,162 more Covid-19 cases were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 17,822.
