Govt decides to shut production at all state-owned jute mills

The government will shut production at all state-owned jute mill after clearing payments of the workers.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmad Kaikaus made the announcement before the media on Thursday following a high-level meeting.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting over the issue at her official residence Ganabhaban with Kaikaus and the secretaries to the finance ministry, and text and jute ministry.
Earlier this week, the government announced to send 25,000 jute mill workers to early retirement through the ‘golden handshake’ scheme.
