Govt constructs 3,500 bldgs for madrasah: Minister

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday said the government has constructed nearly 3,500 buildings for easing infrastructural problems at madrasah educational institutions.
“The construction of over 2,000 buildings is now underway to further improve madrasah education,” he told a stipend-distribution function at Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) here.
Centre for Zakat Development (CZM) organised the function as a part of its countrywide stipend distribution function aiming to support meritorious students of poor family.
Chairman of CZM Niaz Rahim, representatives of different government and non-government organisations, among others, addressed the event with President of Institute of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) Lt Gen (retd) M Nooruddin Khan in the chair.
As many as 421 students from different public universities in Dhaka city were awarded the stipends. Each student will get Taka 2,500 per month for two years.
Nahid said in an effort to modernize madrasah education,massive initiatives have already been taken to bring qualitative change in the education system to create competent manpower.
“We have been made madrasah education time-befitting and modern incorporating science and Information technology (IT) to ensure better access of students to job markets,” he added.
Referring to different initiatives for the development of madrasah education, the minister said 35 model madrasahs have been set up and honours course introduced at 51 madrasahs.
Nahid urged the university authorities to incorporate technology and intensify research works to improve quality of education aiming to develop competent human resources in the country.
“We will not be able to create skilled workforces through traditional higher education system. So, we need to change the traditional higher education system.”
Nahid called upon both public and private universities to generate new knowledge to foster economic progress in the country.
“The new generation must be prepared with modern education alongside
developing high moral values and sense of patriotism to build a prosperous
country,” he added.
He said “The main objective of our education should be preparing our
generation with new knowledge and undated version of technology to build a
modern Bangladesh. A university is not meant for merely collecting
certificates based on prescribed curriculum.”
It (university) must create an environment to nurture students to develop
their fullest potential and capacities as human beings in diverse areas of
knowledge, which will help them to fit in any situation in their life, he
added.
Niaz Rahim said, “Alongside 421 students, we are giving stipends to more
2,000 students from different public universities across the country aiming
to continue their studies.”
