Govt committed to revive past glory of jute

The present government has been implementing various pragmatic initiatives to revive the past glory of the country’s golden fibre through boosting its production and demand at home and abroad.
The opinion came at a post-rally discussion organised by Directorate of Jute under the Ministry of Jute and Textiles with assistance of district administration here on Monday in observance of the National Jute Day- 2017.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed as the chief guest attended the discussion held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner with Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman in the chair.
Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its city unit President Shafiur Rahman Shafi, Principal Scientific Officer of Rangpur Regional Station of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute Dr Abul Fazal Mollah, Assistant Director of the Directorate of Jute Saifur Rahman addressed, as special guests.
The speakers said jute was the biggest export earning commodity for the nation for many decades and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first realised importance of jute and nationalised all jute mills to accelerate its growth.
They said demand for jute was increasing internationally again as the fibre was also being used as composite jute textile, construction materials for earthquake surviving houses, geo-textiles and other proposes and Bangladesh could meet the growing global demand.
