The government on Wednesday filed an appeal petition with the Supreme Court seeking stay on the High Court order that directed the government to send detained Photojournalist Shahidul Alam to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for his treatment.
After a brief hearing, Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Hasan Foez Siddique sent the petition to the full bench of the apex court for its hearing today (Thursday).
On Tuesday, the HC ordered the government to immediately send the detained Photo Journalist Shahidul Alam to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for his treatment, a day after he was placed on a seven-day remand by a trial court.
As per the HC order, Photojournalist Shahidul Alam was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University around 9:30 am yesterday. But Shahidul Alam was taken back to the office of the Detective Branch of Police after doctors at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University found no major health issues that required admission into the hospital.
In response to a writ petition, the High Court bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir also ordered the BSMMU authorities to form a medical board for examining the health condition of Shahidul and submit a report in the court by 10:30 am Thursday.
