UNB, Dhaka :
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday alleged that the government is unwilling to go for a fresh inclusive election under a non-party administration in fear of a massive debacle.
“People have boycotted the January-5 polls responding to our call. Now the current regime is in office with the force of arms. It doesn’ t want to hold a fresh election as it knows it very well that the ruling party candidates will lose their security money if the polls are held,” he said.
Fakhrul further said, “Now we’ve no other option
but to pull down this corrupt and autocratic regime. We must wage a strong movement putting aside all misunderstanding and divisions.”
The BNP leader was addressing a training workshop of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal at the seminar room of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
He criticised the government for what he said resorting to repressive acts. “The government is implicating the opposition leaders and activists in false cases one after another.”
Protesting the issuance of warrant for the arrest of BNP senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a defamation case, Fakhrul said the government is trying to keep their leader away from politics filing ‘false’ cases against him as it fears him for his huge popularity.
He demanded the government immediately withdraw the defamation case.
About his party’s policy about women leadership, the BNP leader said they have started giving women posts at different tiers of the party and its associate bodies to promote women leadership.
He hoped that they will be able to accommodate women in at least 20 percent posts of the party within the next three years.
The BNP acting secretary general asked the leaders of Mohila Dal to be more organised and strengthen their activities all over the country. “You must be more vocal even within the party to realise your rights.”
