Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has given the permission to the BNP-led 20-party alliance to hold its pre-announced rally at the Suhrawardy Uddyan in the city today (Tuesday).
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office on Monday said that the authorities gave verbal permission for holding the rally. The DMP gave the permission when a team of the alliance went to the DMP Commissioner in this regard.
The 20-party alliance will hold the rally at 2:00pm demanding the cancellation of the ‘National Broadcast Policy 2014’. BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and top leaders of the partners of the alliance will address the rally, said the alliance leaders.
Meanwhile, the BNP-led alliance has taken preparation to ensure a large number of presence in the rally. BNP high command has directed their leaders and activists to act according to their directions to make the programme a success. Jamaat-e-Islami also asked its leaders and workers to make the programme a success, sources said.
Rizvi Ahmed said that, the rally will be a peaceful one and thousands people will join the programme to express their no-confidence to the government. He urged the government not to obstruct the rally.
Sources said that Khaleda Zia in her speech in the rally may urge the ruling Awami League again to sit in a dialogue with the BNP to settle the issue of the non-party government system. She may also give a timeframe to accept her offer.
