The services and trainings on various trades being provided by the government through different departments are playing vital role in creating jobs for unemployed male and female to cut rural poverty.
The opinion came yesterday at a views-exchange meeting of the upazila level officials of different service-providing departments and organisations with common people at Sadar union parishad hall room under Gangachara upazila. The Democracy Watch in association with “Oporajita’, an NGO, organised the meeting styled ‘Quality of Services and Social Programmes.’ Female Vice-chairman of Gangachara upazila Nazmin Nahar attended the meeting as the chief guest with Member of Gangachara Sadar union parishad Mofazzal Hossain in the chair.
Gangachara Upazila Social Service Officer Mosaddekur Rahman, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Shahanaz Farzana Afroz, District coordinator of ‘Oporajita’ Foysal Habib and its Programme Officer Mizanur Rahman addressed among others. Heads of upazila level different government and non-government departments and organisations narrated the services being provided to the common people in their respective sector.
The participants said the pace of rural development could be accelerated further through enhancing service delivery to the common people by the upazila level government and non-government organisations ensuring more transparency.
The chief guest put special emphasis on creating proper awareness among both the service providers in the government and NGO offices and service recipients, including the common people, for attaining sustainable rural developments.
“The service providers must ensure easier access to information for poorer people about social safety net programmes like vulnerable group feeding and vulnerable group development, various allowances, health care, welfare and other services,” she said.
She also put emphasis on coordinated efforts of the government, non-government and local service providing organisations and public representatives to speed up uplift and empowerment of the rural people, including women and children.
