‘Govt assistance during COVID-19 pandemic to continue’

Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shamim on Friday said public and private assistance for people during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic would continue for unspecific period.
“The assistance for people during the coronavirus pandemic would continue until the overall condition of the country returns to normal,” he told BSS over the telephone in Shariatpur while distributing food among 5,000 poor families at Naria- Sakhipur upazilas of the district.
For maintaining health rules due to coronavirus outbreak like social distancing, he said people are suffering a lot every day in this regard across the country.
Considering the financial problem and food shortage of the people, the government has taken various initiatives under the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to mitigate people’s sufferings, he added. Apart from government, he said several ministers and wealthy leaders also extended their hands to help people of the country during the ongoing crisis. About various initiatives, he said since March 24, food assistance is being provided among the poor families of Naria upazila under Shariatpur district.
A total of 12,500 and 6,500 poor families so far got food assistance in first and second phases respectively under food assistance programme, Shamim informed.
