Govt allows 5 tanneries to export wet blue leather

The government on Saturday permitted five local tanneries to export wet blue leather for one year as a measure to create a demand for rawhide in the domestic markets during the peak season at Eid-ul-Azha.
The commerce ministry gave conditional permission after the authorities of the tanneries submit applications to the ministry in this regard.
Wet blue is a half crust leather to be finally tanned before using for making leather goods like shoes, bags or for final tan for exporting.
In wet blue export, the companies will have to follow the rules of Export Policy 2018-21, the commerce ministry said in the permission letters.
The companies will have to renew the permit after completion of the specific quota of wet blue export. The government has allowed one crore square feet wet blue 20lakh square feet each company for exporting for the first time.
The validity of the permission is up to June 30 next year. After completing the shipment, the companies will have to submit the necessary documents to the government offices concerned.
The government can terminate the permission of wet blue export anytime, the commerce ministry said in a statement.
