Governor seeks bankers’ support to tackle risks

Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Fazle Kabir on Monday sought more active support from the top bankers of the country to fence off the banking sector from both internal and external risk factors.
While talking to a delegation of the Association of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB) at his office, the newly appointed governor said that only strong and coordinated efforts would make the country’s banking sector sound and vibrant. ABB is the apex-body for the top executives of the country’s private banks.
Following the meeting, BB executive director and spokesperson Subhankar Saha told journalists that the bankers assured the governor of providing their all supports in strengthening the banking sector by ensuring security.
Former finance secretary Fazle Kabir joined the central bank as governor on Sunday when he said that his priorities would be recovery of $81 million heist by hackers from the BB’s account with New York Federal Reserve Bank.
Kabir said he would also take all efforts to restore the confidence of BB officials to ensure high efficiency and would focus on strengthening of security system to make the banking system foolproof.
