‘Government’s Social Security Strategy for cutting poverty’

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker and Chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said the government has taken a pragmatic step for implementing the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS) helping to resolve social problems and eradicate poverty.
“Lawmakers are well-aware of social problems. . . if they can be attached with social security strategy activities, the country would get rid of poverty successfully,” she said this on Tuesday while speaking at a workshop organized by the parliament secretariat and cabinet division at the parliament Bhaban.
Terming the NSSS programme as a comprehensive initiative, she said the present government has allocated Taka 45 thousand crore from the revenue budget in the current fiscal.
The Speaker urged all members of parliament (MPs) to work together to materialize the strategy where women, children, widow, freedom fighters and physically challenged people were incorporated.
Dr Shamsul Alam of planning commission presented the keynote paper in the workshop, where 125 participants including MPs, high officials of the Jatiya Sangsad were present.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam presided over the program while Deputy Speaker Mohammad Fazley Rabbi Miah was present as the special guest.
 Among others, Chief Whip ASM Feroz, Whip Shahiduzzaman Sarker, Whip Mohammad Shahab Uddin and Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini spoke.
