Gonoshasthaya Kendra Trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury has urged the rich people in society to help the 20,000 poor people with food and meat during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Zafrullah Chowdhury said, “The poor people of the country will not be able to enjoy the Eid-ul-Azha as prices of daily commodities have skyrocketed. There is no way for them except shedding tears on Eid day.”
“Around three crore people will be deprived of Eid happiness. Though we cannot afford to provide assistance to such a huge number of people, we can stand beside several lakhs of people. For this reason, Gonoshasthaya Kenda has taken an initiative to provide food and meat to some 20000 people,” he further said.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra officials and
employees have donated five percent of their one-month salary and for this a fund of Tk 50 lakh has been created, Zafrullah said. “But we need Tk 1.5 crore to give food assistance to 20,000 people.”
He made an appeal to well-off people and businessmen in the country to send money through bKash to make this noble effort successful.
Dr Zafrullah said, “A total of about 53,000 Muslims are going to Mecca to perfor Hajj this year from Bangladesh. If they donate Tk 10,000 each, some six lakh people can enjoy the Eid days. Allah will be more pleased if they do so.”
Gonoshasthaya Kendra has taken a decision to give a package of foods including four kilograms rice, half kilogram meat, half liter soybean oil, two kilograms atta, potato, salt, chilli powder and spices to each of 20,000 poor people in the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. All donations for humanity are free from tax.
