Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Sunday recovered some gold bars and jewelries weighing 574 grams worth Tk 28.70 lakh at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the city.
A CIID team kept a close watch on a passenger who returned from Sharjah of United Arab Emirates by a flight of Air Arabia. He has been identified as Sohel Rana, resident of Jatrabari, Dhaka.
Accused Sohel Rana was carrying two gold bars inside his rectum, two bars
inside a pot of Vaseline and 109-gram gold jewelries in his baggage without official declaration.
The seized gold bars and jewelries have been deposited in the customs warehouse and legal action will be taken against the accused on charge of smuggling effort.
