Gold statue of Goddess Laksmi, silver coin recovered in Jhenaidah

A gold statue of Goddess Laksmi weighting 402 gram and an one tola silver coin was recovered from near the latrine of a mosque at Kabirpur in Sailkupa municipality on Tuesday night. Later the recovered items were handed over to police.
Sailkupa municipality ward councilor Showkat Ali Biswas said, the Imam of Sailkupa upazila health complex Jame E Mosque had informed him that he found a packet with the golden statue. He (Showkat) along with an ex councilor of the municipality Mush Khan rushed spot and found the same. They informed the matter to Sailkupa police and the police received the statue and coin from them, Shawkat said.
Sailkupa police station officer in charge Tarikul Islam said, primarily they were confirmed that the statue the goddess was made of gold. The coin from silver was made during the reign of King 7 Edward in 1903.
The recovered items were kept in the store of the police station to show before the responsible officers of the department of archaeology within a day or two to detect the nature of the metal, OC said.
