Customs officials arrested a passenger along with five gold bars weighting 1.2 Kg worth Tk 54 lakh from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday night.
The detained has been identified as Masum Sheikh (40). He came from Malaysia by a flight of Melinda Airlines. Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Director of Customs Intelligence Department, HSIA Airport said that customs officials challenged Masum for his suspicious movement when he was leaving the customs area at about 9:00 pm.
Searching his body, the officials found the five gold bars, he said.
Later, Masum was handed over to the Airport Police Station.
