Speakers at a views-sharing meeting here have called upon authorities of the government and non-government organisations for creating employment opportunities for the physically challenged people to make them self-reliant.
The government and non-government organisations should properly follow government policy and reserved quota in creating job opportunities and provide necessary training and available services to the physically challenged people, they said.
Rangdhanu Zila Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha (RZPAS) and Prottyasha Protibondhi Nari O Shishu Unnayan Sangstha (PPNSUS) organised the meeting on Wednesday with assistance of ADD International and Manusher Janno Foundation at Raja Ram Mohan Club auditorium in the city.
President of RZPAS Nur Alam presided over the vies-sharing meeting styled ‘Role of Government and Non-government Organisations in Creating Opportunities for Getting Training, Employment and Services by Disabled Population.’
Additional District Magistrate of Rangpur Tonima Tasmin attended and addressed the meeting as the chief guest.
Deputy Director of the Rural Development Board Sirajul Islam, Social Service Officer (Registration) Abdul Matin, Assistant Director of the Youth Development Department Khandker Rownakul Islam and Assistant General Manager of Karmosangsthan Bank Maksuda Nasrine and President of the District Employment Implementation Committee for Physically Challenged People Advocate M A Basher Tipu addressed as special guests.
President of PPNSUS Ummey Kulsum delivered the welcome speech while member of RZPAS Noor Jahan Akhter Shilpi presented the keynote paper on the subject of the views-sharing meeting.
Social Service Officer of the Protibondhi Swashthya Seba Kendra Ashrafun Nesa, President of Raja Ram Mohan Clun Monwar Hossain, Executive Director of Dristi Sangstha Ashique Iqbal, Professor Shah Alam, took part in the open discussion.
Capacity Development Facilitator of ADD International Marufa Begum moderated the meeting participated by fifty physically challenged male and female persons from all eight upazilas in the district and government and non-government officials.
Leaders and activists of different organisations working for welfare of the physically challenged people from all over the district, civil society members, sociocultural and human rights activists and journalists of the divisional city were present.
The meeting discussed issues like creating awareness on legal and constitutional rights of the physically challenged population, good governance and coordination in and among different organisations of the disabled people and their employment opportunities.
The speakers stressed for coordinated efforts in exploring opportunities for employment, training facilities, easy-term loan and service for persons with disabilities in government, non-government, private and other departments, institutions and organisations.
They called for creating awareness on the fixed government quota for jobs of physically challenged people among the concerned government and non-government departments and organisations and private bodies for ensuring the quota implementation.
