GM Ziaur Rahman becomes unbeaten champion

GM Ziaur Rahman of Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited became unbeaten champion in the Shaheed Sheikh Moni Memorial International Rating Chess Tournament 2015 organised by Golden Sporting Club under the guidance of Bangladesh Chess Federation which was held at the Auditorium Lounge of National Sports Council Tower on Friday. Zia earned 8 points to clinch the title.
Three players earned 7½ points each. Their ties were broken by tie-breaking system. FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon of Dhaka Mohammedan became runner-up, FM Debaraj Chatterjee of Titas Club Chess team finished 3rd and FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Leonine Chess Club became 4th. Lama Himal of Nepal became 5th and Md. Saiful Islam Chowdhury of Sonali Bank Recreation Club became 6th with 7 points each. Eight players earned 6½ points each. Their positions are: 7th-IM Abu Sufian Shakil of Dhaka Mohammedan, 8th- Jaiswal Rupesh of Nepal, 9th-Tamal Chakrabarti of India, 10th- FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Titas Club. The 9th or last round games were held yesterday (Friday). In the last round, Zia drew with Debaraj, Emon beat Fahad, Parag beat Jamal, Shakil drew with Saif, Saiful beat Jaber Al Hamid, Himal beat Thing Bibek, Shafiq drew with Rupesh, Tamal beat Syed Ejaz Hossain and Delwar beat Dewan Shahidul Amin.
