GM Ziaur Rahman became unbeaten champion in the May Day Rapid Rating Chess Tournament organised by the Sheikh Russell Chess Club in association with Bangladesh Chess Federation held on Tuesday at Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-room.
GM Zia earned 6.5 points to clinch the title in day long Rapid Chess.
Five players earned 6 points each. In tie-breaking system CM Sohel Chowdhury became runner-up, FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman became 3rd, Md. Abzid Rahman became 4th and CM Chanchal Kumer Ghosh became 5th. Md. Abu Hanif became 6th with 5.5 each.
Mohammad Sherajul Kabir became 7th, FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman became 8th, Uten became 9th and Anisuzzaman Jewel became 10th with 5 points each.
A total of 92 players participated in this event. The event was held in 7 round Swiss-League system and cash prize money given to winners.
