Global death toll from Covid-19 reached 2,04,435 with 29,50,829 infections in 210 countries and territories while recovered 8,43,453, according to worldometer.
The death toll from coronavirus in the United States has been skyrocketed since early April. A record of 3,332 people has been killed in the last 24 hours bringing the total to 54,265 in the country with 9,60,896 infections. More than 1 lakh people have recovered in the country so far.
The United States has left all countries behind in terms of both infection and death. The day before, more than 100,000 people had recovered in Germany, the first nation in the world. The United States overtook them in a day.
So far 118,162 people in the United States have recovered from coronavirus infection. According to the international survey website Worldometer, they are on top in terms of recovery too. The number of people recovered from coronavirus in Germany is 109,800. Then Spain is on the list of Coronavirus winners, 95,708 COVID-19 patients have recovered.
However, the United States may become optimistic that they also at the top of the coronavirus recovery list.
Rejectingthe advice of top disease experts, the US state of Georgia allowed thousands of businesses to resume operations, from hairdressers to bowling alleys.
“How long are we supposed to imprison ourselves?” said 30-year-old Mackenzie Scharf, one of many in Georgia embracing the return to something resembling normalcy.
“This is much safer than going grocery shopping,” she told AFP on the beach at Tybee Island, where her five-year-old son flew a kite under a cloudless sky.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he wants to resume business in the world’s biggest economy, even as medical advisors have cautioned against easing lockdown too soon or too fast.
The US leader faced a fresh volley of criticism after suggesting that coronavirus could be treated by shining ultraviolet light inside patients’ bodies, or with injections of household disinfectant.
He lashed out at the media on Twitter, accusing journalists of posing hostile questions, and suggested his daily coronavirus briefings were not worth his time.
“They get record ratings, & the American people get nothing but Fake News. Not worth the time & effort!,” Trump wrote.
Deaths from the COVID-19 epidemic in Italy climbed by 415 on Saturday, the smallest daily tally since March 17, the Civil Protection Agency said.
The number of new infections was also the lowest in five days at 2,357 from 3,021 on Friday.
Saturday’s death toll was slightly down from 420 on Friday.
The total of fatalities since the outbreak came to light on Feb. 21 now stands at 26,384, the agency said, the second highest in the world after that of the United States.
The number of confirmed cases was 195,351, the third highest global tally behind those of the United States and Spain.
People registered as currently carrying the illness fell to 105,847 from 106,527 on Friday, a sixth consecutive daily decline.
There were 2,102 people in intensive care on Saturday against 2,173 on Friday, maintaining a long-running decline. Of those originally infected, 63,120 were declared recovered against 60,498 a day earlier.
The agency said 1.187 million people had been tested for the virus against 1.148 million the day before, out of a population of around 60 million.
Spain’s coronavirus death toll rose to 22,902 on Saturday, up from 22,524 the day before, media outlets, including El Pais and El Mundo, reported.
The number of daily fatalities was 378, a slight increase on Friday’s 367, which was the lowest figure recorded in the past month.
The overall number of coronavirus cases rose to 223,759 from 219,764 the day before.
Spain’s Health Ministry could not immediately confirm the figures to Reuters.
