Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim sought cooperation of the international community to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) diseases from Bangladesh by 2030.
The minister made the appeal on Thursday while taking part in a breakfast meeting with his counterparts – Jagat Prakash Nadda of India and Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim of the Maldives– and Russian Deputy Minister for Health Tatiana Yokovlona there.
Nasim left Dhaka on November 14 for Moscow, Russia, to attend a global conference on “Ending Tuberculosis in the Sustainable Development Era: a Multisectoral Approach”.
Responding to the appeal, Russia, India and the Maldives have assured Bangladesh of providing all-out assistance to materialize the target of the government to eradicate tuberculosis diseases from Bangladesh by 2030, said a press release.
The Health Minister highlighted different successful steps of the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in the health sector.
He said various pragmatic steps were undertaken by the present government to fight against TB and some other diseases, including polio, tetanus, cholera and malaria.
“Country is now almost free from polio and tetanus while cholera and malaria are about to go forever,” he mentioned.
Besides setting up some specialized hospitals in Bangladesh, Nasim said the government ensured the health services for the poor people at the grassroots.
The minister also mentioned free health services and medicine facilities at 14 thousand community clinics across the country.
“The tremendous success in reducing child mortality rate and providing health facilities for the general people through the community clinics has set up an instance for developing countries of the world,” the minister added.
