A first-year student of Manikganj college jumped from a moving bus on Dhaka-Aricha Highway under Manikganj’s Saturia upazila on Saturday noon allegedly to escape rape.
Police have arrested the bus driver Khokon Mia, 26, son of one Sirajul Islam, from Beparipara of Delduar in Tangail in this connection.
Golra Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam confirmed the matter to the media.The process of filing a complaint of attempted rape with Saturia Police Station was underway while filing this report yesterday evening.
When asked, the victim college student said that in the morning she got into a bus of Kalampur Enterprise from Dhamrai Thana Road for going to Manikganj.
After the bus crossed some distance, almost all the passengers got out of the vehicle. Then when she wanted to get out of the bus, the driver and helper stopped her. When the bus crossed the Nayadingi bus stand, the bus driver tried to rape her on the moving bus.
At one stage, she pushed the bus driver and jumped from the moving bus. Later, the driver of a private car informed the Highway Police about the matter and the police arrested the bus driver and handed over him to the Saturia Police Station.
Golra Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam said the bus driver was arrested and sent to Saturia Police Station on charges of attempting to rape a college student on a moving bus. The bus was also seized after the incident.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saturia Police Station Ashraful Alam said preparations were underway to file a case with the police station for attempting to rape a college girl.
