A young girl allegedly committed suicide after clubbed by miscreants in the East Jurain area under Kadamtali Police Station in the capital on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Shova Akhter (17), daughter of Sohrab Bapari, a security guard of the Mistir Dukan area at Jurain, Dhaka city. Her village home is at Notun Bazaar under Shibchar thana in Madaripur district.
The deceased’s family members said, one
Shawlin, resident of Hasnabad, Postogola, and his friends had been teasing her for several months. On Tuesday evening, victim Shova was talking with a man in front of the residence of Dr Khurshed where she used to stay for taking care of his baby. Seeing it, rowdy Shawlin called her and clubbed her severely.
She told everything to his Dr Khurshed’s family members. But at night, she out of shame committed suicide in a room hanging with a ceiling fan at 9.30 pm.
Dr. Khurshid’s family members immediately communicated with the family members of Shova. She was taken in a critical condition to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 11.30 by her relatives. But she breathed her last during the small hours of Wednesday at 4.45 pm in the hospital.
Liton Mia, Shova’s brother-in-law, said, Shawlin is influential in his area. Seeing Shova in the state of humiliation, we went to the spot for settlement. In turn, Shawlin said, “I can do anything I desire”.
Police sources said, when deceased’s father Sohrab Bapari was going to his residence, the gang beat him and threatened him of dire consequence if he filed any case with the police station.
Police arrested one Masud, friend of Shawlin, in this connection and sent the body to DMCH morgue. A sexual harassment case has been filed with the Kadantali Police Station in this connection.
