A teen-aged girl has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan inside her paternal aunt’s residence at Mohammadpur in Dhaka. The victim identified as Laboni, 14, committed the tragic incident at 11:00 am on Thursday. Her paternal house is at Ujirpur, Barisal, police said.
Quoting the locals, Mohammadpur Police Station’s Sub-Inspector (SI) Jalal Uddin confirmed the matter and said that Laboni hanged herself with the ceiling fan by using apparel (scurf) inside the room when her aunt Jesmin Akter (25) went to a garment factory for work in the Dhaka Uddayan Housing area, Mohammadpur.
He added that Laboni allegedly committed the incident on account of humiliation and misunderstanding with Jesmin over nursing a child of her aunt.
The police official said that Jesmin brought Laboni in Dhaka about a year ago for looking after her child at her residence. But Jesmin had been insulting her for last few months.
He added that the police recovered the body on information and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital’s (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.
