The girder of an under constructing overbridge has been collapsed on the railway line at Bangla Bazar in Fouzderhat under Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Sunday last.
Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) is constructing the overbridge.
However, no casualty was reported. The train service on that route was temporarily suspended after the incident. It is learned that goods trains of the railway run on this route. Senior Railway and CDA officials went to the spot after the girder collapsed. The girder was later removed from the top of the rail track.
Inspector Shafiqul Islam, inspector (in-charge) of the Fauzdarhat police outpost, confirmed the incident. We have informed the matter to the control room of the railway.
Engineer FM Mumtaz, project director of the loop line of the railway from Bayazid to Kalushah Mazar, first denied the matter. Later, when media personnel informed him that they had pictures and video footage, he finally admitted the incident.
Expectra Engineers Limited is implementing the verbridge project.
