A gigantic and rare species skate (large, flat and long tailed) edible sea fish lodally known as Shaplapata Mas was brought to Bagerhat KB wholesale fish market on Tuesday morning by the fishermen.
Its weight was 9 hundred kgs. It was caught in fishing nets of fishermen Nasir Hawladar and Gopal Biswas while they were catching fish from the Bay of Bengal, attached to the Eastern Division of Sundarban forest in Bagerhat district on Sunday. On Tuesday in the morning when this gigantic skate fish was brought to KB wholesale fish market a large number of people rushed to the market to see the fish. Later, the fish was sold at Tk.5 thousand and Tk.2 hundred per maund (40 Kgs) and kg respectively.
Alhaj Abed Ali, president of KB wholesale fish traders’ association told this correspondent, such a gigantic and rare species skate fish (Shaplapata) was not brought to Bagehat fish market previously.
