Get united to resist democracy killers: Khaleda

UNB, Dhaka :
Observing that democracy is set to slip into a deep hole in the country, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on Wednesday urged all to get united to foil the plots of evil forces of democracy killers.
“We all must get united to thwart conspiracies by the evil forces of democracy annihilators,” she said in a message issued on the occasion of Shaheed Dr Milon Day commemorating his 24th death anniversary.
On November 27, 1990, the cadres of then autocratic ruler HM Ershad gunned down Dr Milon, the then
joint secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association on Dhaka University campus.
Different socio-political and cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the day.
Khaleda alleged that the one-party rule, reestablished by killing democracy through the January-5 ‘voter-less’ election, has also blocked the path of progress of multiparty democracy.
Mentioning that Dr Milon embraced martyrdom to save democracy from the shackle of autocratic rule, she said his sacrifice will be successful if democracy gets a strong footing.
“He (Milon) is our source of inspiration in the struggle and movement against all authoritarian and autocratic and anti-democracy forces.”
Khaleda, also a former Prime Minister, prayed for salvation of the departed soul of Milon.
